Lab Scientist (870-3423)

Located in the heart of New York’s Finger Lake region, our Ithaca Research and Development center is the product development and new technology hub for Aramco Performance Materials. The center focuses on developing innovative new materials and chemistries to support the company’s product development and technology strategies.

Basic Function

The successful candidate will be an integral member of Aramco Performance Materials' (APM’s) new technology team and will conduct research in support of APM’s new technology development initiatives. The Scientist will synthesize and characterize polymers, catalysts and chemicals using state of the art techniques and will bring creativity and scientific rigor to their research to realize innovations that will lead to new commercial opportunities in the field of specialty chemicals and polymers for Aramco. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conceive, plan, and conduct research of commercial and strategic importance to the company
  • Synthesize polymers, intermediates, catalysts using modern chemistry methods and techniques
  • Characterize reaction products and intermediates using modern analytical techniques
  • Document results in the form of weekly reports, quarterly summaries, and technical reports
  • Identify novel commercial opportunities aligned with APM’s business strategy and protect intellectual property in the form of invention disclosures
  • Keep current with significant developments in the field of organic, polymer, and catalysis chemistry
  • Maintain state-of-the-art laboratory instrumentation and implement lab improvements when necessary
  • Lead and/or participate in collaborative research projects within other departments of APM or Saudi Aramco
  • Participate in all lab specific activities including EHS
  • Provide and manage a safe, accident-free laboratory environment; comply with all safety rules and requirements
  • Perform other miscellaneous related duties as requested

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Organic Chemistry, Polymer/Material Science or Engineering or related field of study required; Masters or PhD preferred
  • Seven (7) years’ experience in a substantive industrial, technological or laboratory area relevant to the jobs assignment
  • Must have the ability to work independently or a part of a project team
  • Must possess good presentation skills and be comfortable speaking in a public setting
  • Must have the ability and a proven track record in completion of development projects with aggressive timelines and varying degrees of complexity
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
