Lab Technician (870-3422)

Located in the heart of New York’s Finger Lake region, our Ithaca Research and Development center is the product development and new technology hub for Aramco Performance Materials. The center focuses on developing innovative new materials and chemistries to support the company’s product development and technology strategies.

Basic Function

The position participates in a variety of complex analytical laboratory support activities for a specific testing or research program for Aramco Performance Materials (APM). Work is performed through the application of a body of knowledge related to standard laboratory methods, practices, procedures, policies, regulations, and laboratory materials and equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory analyses using advanced equipment and instrumentation when necessary
  • Perform complex sampling tasks which may require several steps, safety precautions, and onsite analytical work to be performed
  • Train and mentor junior staff as directed by supervisor
  • Direct basic work such as simple analytical and sampling tasks as required by supervisor
  • Operate, adjust, and maintain scientific instruments
  • Conduct experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols
  • Perform measurements, collect date, and analyze results according to established protocols
  • Maintain accurate records of procedures used to conduct experiments
  • Use laboratory/computer equipment to conduct analyses of experiment data and provide routine interpretations of analyses
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols
  • Maintain and organize laboratory supplies; monitor inventory levels and order or secure supplies as needed
  • Conduct library research to assist in the planning and design of experiments
  • Participate in all Lab Specific Activities including EHS, following all company safety rules, taking action on hazards and reporting these items to the supervisor
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor

Education and Experience

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent required; two (2) years college or an Associate Degree in related-science major preferred
  • Seven (7) years industrial research lab experience required
  • Must have knowledge of Quality Assurance Procedures and the ability to handle samples and laboratory equipment
  • Must have the ability to make mathematical computations
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined; good interpersonal and communication skills and proficient technical writing skills
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
