Basic Function

Perform technical procedures relevant to laboratory-based research and development efforts in chemical synthesis and chemical engineering. Also, perform routine laboratory experiments with oil and gas industry standard evaluation instruments, such as those used for the evaluation of cement and drilling fluids. Preferred applicant is a highly proficient specialist in research and development support functions from the chemical industry or the oil and gas industry.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for conveying the results of key experiments to senior researchers in concise and clear tabulations, graphs, and reports
  • Responsible for interpreting experimental results and communicating  findings and their relevance in a professional, accurate, efficient and useful manner
  • Responsible for conducting technical experiments, analyses, and tests requiring specific technical knowledge and techniques in projects supporting research
  • Support senior researchers according to their project requirements
  • Support and maintain laboratory equipment as necessary
  • Record data and experiments through group-specific data management systems and databases
  • Conduct all research activities in a manner that conforms to policies on health, safety and environmental compliance
  • Develop procedures and methods as required for internal and external certifications
  • Perform highly complex analytical tasks requiring many steps, through planning and/or use of advanced and sophisticated equipment and instrumentation    
  • Utilizes computers frequently, to assist in data manipulation
  • Serve as a technical reference for other non-professional laboratory technicians
  • Duties may require occasional travel
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s Science degree in Applied Technology or four (4) years college chemistry or related science (i.e., biology) or competency in combination with research and development support  function experiences from the chemical industry or the oil and gas industry; Bachelor’s  degree in a related science discipline is preferred
  • Twelve (12) years industrial research lab experience
  • Candidates having less years of experience will be considered
  • Preferred candidate has experience in performing routine laboratory experiments with oil and gas industry standard evaluation instruments, such as those used for the evaluation of cement and drilling fluids
  • Must be able to write and verbally communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be proficient in technical writing skills
  • Must be able to use power tools and delicate measuring and metering instruments
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment, including but not limited to personal computers (MS Office Suite), calculators, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, etc.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend published, handwritten and typewritten materials, company forms, blueprints, technical manuals and computer printouts
