OVERVIEW:

Aramco Americas’ Sensors Development Team in Houston, TX develops better methods for acquiring the data needed for exploration and production.  These include techniques based on fiber optic sensing, where durable optical fiber is installed for the lifetime of a well to provide continual measurement of temperature and/or strain along the wellbore.  We are looking for a creative and visionary leader to build a future where well completion, production logging, inspections, and well integrity monitoring will be accomplished with increased safety and lower cost through fiber optic sensing applications instead of wireline or coiled tubing-conveyed methods.  The successful applicant will have a history of innovation in the downhole installation of optical fiber to maximize data quality, the acquisition of distributed acoustic sensing (DAS), distributed strain sensing (DSS) and distributed temperature sensing (DTS) data in the field, and/or the automated processing and interpretation of fiber optic data for oilfield applications. 

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: 

  • Communicate a clear and impactful vision for the future of fiber optic sensing in the oilfield

  • Create stakeholder alignment around the vision

  • Overcome the key technical challenges in implementing the vision

  • Oversee operations and experiments at our fiber optic instrumented test well facility

  • Assist in development of our intellectual property portfolio

  • Publish results in high-impact journals and at technical conferences

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

  • B.S. in Engineering or equivalent field.  M.S. or PhD in Engineering or other advanced professional engineering degree is highly desirable.  Incumbent must maintain a high level of industry recognition through activities on committees of professional societies and industrial organizations such as ASME, ASTM, API, SPE, or others.  Typically, incumbent will have acquired additional professional study and training in various associated fields over the years and mostly published significant papers in technical journals.   

  • Twenty (20) years’ experience including at least ten (10) years as a specialist with full responsibility for major technical work in a particular field of engineering or advance technical field.  Incumbent must clearly be recognized (internally and externally) as an outstanding expert in the general field of engineering.  Must be able to tactfully guide, persuade, and negotiate others towards specific recommendations.  Must appreciate and respect different viewpoints.  Must be willing to work toward optimum solutions so long as basic principles are not compromised. 

  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined.  Must have excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills and be willing to transfer implicit knowledge to specialists and engineers in area of specialty.  Must possess good human relations skills, problem-solving skills and be able to work with people under stressful circumstances. 

  • Expert knowledge of Saudi Aramco organization, policies, practices, procedures, and precedents.  Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette. 

 

BUSINESS CONTACTS: 

  • Has frequent contact with all levels of management in Project Management, Engineering Services, Research & Development Center, Information Technology, Exploration, Petroleum Engineering, Refining & Distribution, and/or Oil and Gas Operations.  Works closely with specialists and consultants from the U.S. companies and other corporations, research organizations and universities in areas of common concern.  The incumbent will represent the Company in dealings with vendors and consultants in assigned area.  Participates in professional society activities.  May serve as Company spokesperson on technical matters related to area of expertise. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: 

  • Operates standard office equipment, including but not limited to:  personal computers, calculators, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, etc. 

  • Reads and comprehends published, handwritten, and typewritten materials, company forms, and computer printouts. 

  • Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, and database functions in the Windows environment.   

  • Travels to meetings, seminars, and to vendor offices in Houston and throughout North America.
