Basic Function

Provides expert technical advice and guidance in either a broad or specialized area of petroleum engineering, for conventional and unconventional resources.  Apply engineering expertise to review reservoir simulation results or assess complex production operations challenges and recommend remediation practices and procedures. Perform and direct major engineering projects and technical services requiring original or unusual analysis and solution. May coordinate or collaborate with other engineers. Because of his/her recognized technical capability, experience, and judgment he/she makes a unique and substantial personal contribution in his/her area of expertise.

This position provides opportunity for continued advancement of individuals of outstanding technical capability who make substantial and essential contributions on an individual basis. This includes (1) individuals of broader experience and of demonstrated ability and good judgment, and (2) individuals who are expert in a particular specialized area of petroleum engineering.  The increasing size and complexity of Saudi Aramco's producing operations and the related petroleum engineering support requires ASC to have in-house expertise in various specialized areas.  

The position provides for expertise at  different levels of recognized competence and demonstrated ability to communicate with Management and working associates and to convert technical expertise into practical recommendations regarding budget items, engineering and operating procedures, etc. Apart from the broader areas of Reservoir and Production Engineering, specialized areas in which individuals have been previously placed  may include: Drilling Engineering, Reservoir Simulation, Formulation Evaluation, Completions, and Long-Range Planning.   Other areas may include Well Data Base Management, Long-Range Planning, Oil Well Corrosion, Artificial Lift Systems, and Well Stimulation. Future application may include such areas as well completions, hydraulic fracturing, acidizing, Sand Control, testing equipment, gas engineering and water management.

In addition, the candidate may handle projects on behalf of Saudi Aramco and represents ASC under circumstances where ASC and Saudi Aramco would otherwise be dependent upon use of outside consultants.

 This position may also result in the chosen candidate leading  a team to solve  specific or general problems.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides expert advice and assistance on engineering and/or operating problems relating to his/her area of expertise.  
  • Specifies design criteria and relevant operating parameters for development of new projects within his/her area of expertise. 
  • Participates in project technical report out and/or reviews.
  • Develop and reviews proposals for new or changed operating procedures on his/her area of expertise to ensure efficient and economic solutions. 
  • Conducts economic studies on cost analysis as appropriate to resolve alternative causes of action relative to his/her area of expertise. 
  • Based on experience in North and/or South Americas, identify operational best practices relevant to Saudi Aramco.
  • Originates ideas for improvements, develops a basis for required field testing and Management review, analyses result and recommends new or changed procedures and/or facilities. 
  • Recommends, designs, and oversees suitable outside investigations to resolve problems which exceed current engineering knowledge in his/her specialty. 
  • Represents ASC and Saudi Aramco in technical contacts with Shareholders and SAG representatives dealing with company procedures or proposed operations relative to his/her area of expertise. 
  • Makes presentations to ASC Management, to Shareholder Program Review, or to various Shareholder Technical Meetings, as appropriate. 
  • Represents ASC and Saudi Aramco in dealings with manufacturers, vendors, outside consultants, etc. within his/her area of expertise. 
  • Conducts seminars, prepares manuals, and trains and develops Aramco engineers and operating personnel in his/her area of expertise. 
  • Conduct technology scouting, collaborate with operations partners in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for field test or implementation pilot, analyze subsequent results are required.
  • Participates in technical societies and technical groups in his/her area of expertise; represents Aramco on industry committees or specialized groups as appropriate. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 

Education and Experience

  • BS in engineering or equivalent technical field MS or PhD is desirable, but not required; intensive industry training including appropriate specialized courses and seminars is expected.
  • Typically, has at least fifteen (15) years of related experience, including ten (10) years of intensive experience in his/her specialty. Typically, will be active in related professional societies and will have achieved professional recognition through publications, committee activities, etc.
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend both orally and in writing, accurately, clearly and concisely in English at the high level required to perform the job as outlined.
  • Must be clearly recognized by both his/her supervisors and colleagues as thoroughly qualified and highly competent in his/her area of expertise.  Must have demonstrated ability to communicate ideas clearly to work effectively with others, and to utilize his/her technical knowledge to achieve practical results Supervisors and Aramco Management must have confidence in his/her judgment and recommendations. Additionally, because or prior contacts and/or industry recognition, Shareholder representatives, SAG personnel and other outside contacts should also recognize his/her technical expertise.  He/she must be able to represent ASC & Saudi Aramco effectively in such contacts and command technical respect.
  • Must posses good work ethic and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette.
  • Understanding of artificial lift systems; lift design strategies, implementation, start-up, optimization, production challenges, monitoring, troubleshooting and re-design for ESP, pumpjack, gas lift and plunger lift systems.
  • Experience in well completion design, well workovers/interventions, sand control, scale mitigation, artificial lift selection, equipment landing depths, production optimization and water management.
  • Understanding of Saudi Arab culture if relevant in assigned area.

-prepare accurate, effective, complete, and easily understood written communications, reports and presentations. 

-handle confidential or sensitive information or issues.

  • Familiar with oil and gas software applications (e.g., CMG, Resfrac, GOHFER, Petrel, SandCade, FracCADE, PIPESIM).Must be able to comprehend and communicate accurately, clearly and concisely in English.
