Sr. Intellectual Property Liaison (870-3398)

Located in the heart of New York’s Finger Lake region, our Ithaca Research and Development center is the product development and new technology hub for Aramco Performance Materials. The center focuses on developing innovative new materials and chemistries to support the company’s product development and technology strategies.

Basic Function

The Sr. Intellectual Property Liaison will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive intellectual property (IP) strategy to protect Aramco Performance Materials’ (APM) business.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the prosecution of an existing global IP estate to support a growing business, by preparing information packages to support legal counsel, working closely with inventors and business stakeholders, and coordinating feedback to outside counsel
  • Manage outside counsel, reviewing patent application drafts prepared, advising on prosecution strategy and ensuring cost effective deployment of IP budget
  • Establish a leadership role in the company’s IP committee and ensure that IP processes are developed and implemented to create a culture of innovation and IP protection where company IP assets are appropriately documented and protected
  • Educate inventors and other stakeholders on IP best practices
  • Track all ongoing IP projects for APM; organize, coordinate, and facilitate meetings for product or project clearance reviews, foreign filing and other decisions
  • Perform patent searches or subcontract patent searches to search firms as needed, review search results with inventors or other stakeholders
  • Establish, maintain and manage processes to maintain an up-to-date understanding of competitive developments and potential infringement issues
  • Provide regular updates to management of competitive developments and related IP issues
  • Perform all other confidential projects or tasks as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or other related academic field of study required; advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum ten (10) years of related experience in the chemical, polymer or pharmaceutical industry
  • Must be an attorney or agent registered and in good standing to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and have prior experience managing outside counsel
  • Proficiency with USPTO systems required
  • Must have good leadership skills, be highly organized, self-motivated and pay close attention to detail
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined; excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies and standard business etiquette
