Lab Scientist (870-3425)

Basic Function

The Lab Scientist applies organic chemistry expertise to solve technical problems relating to Aramco Performance Materials (APM) manufacturing and process development activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule and execute lab-scale chemistry experiments in the course of chemical process development and improvement efforts
  • Conduct experiments and studies in support of individual projects to improve safety, reliability, capacity, yield and quality
  • Initiate detailed work outline and make decisions as to basic approaches, processes or equipment
  • Carry out original investigations relating to technical problems outside the scope of available literature
  • Keep current with significant developments in the field of specialization, will be expected to use these in investigative assignments when applicable
  • Document all results in the form of Memos and Technical Reports
  • Maintain and update working knowledge of applicable laboratory instrumentation
  • Interact with customers/industry to understand product/process requirements and provide necessary support
  • Transfer product formulations, process, and specifications to manufacturing team and provide support as needed
  • Participate in all Lab Specific Activities including EHS
  • Provide and manage a safe, accident-free laboratory environment and follow all company safety rules in performing job duties
  • Discuss, coordinate and resolve technical problems with personnel through APM, Aramco Services Company (ASC), Saudi Aramco and affiliates, and with outside company organizations as required
  • Bring all elements of a project together, make certain that all elements proceed satisfactorily on schedule and initiate corrective action as required
  • Utilize sound Project Management skills to successfully handle multiple projects
  • Perform other miscellaneous related duties as requested

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry required
  • Seven (7) years’ hands-on experience in a substantive industrial, technological or laboratory area preferably in a chemicals process development group
  • Preferred experience with SS pressure reactor component and/or general synthetic organic procedures in glassware
  • Must have the ability to work independently or a part of a project team
  • Must have the ability to work in and lead project teams and efficiently direct the work of others and have proven success in completion of research projects with aggressive timelines and varying degrees of complexity
  • Demonstrated ability to apply Statistical techniques (e.g., DOE, Six Sigma methodology) for process development and improvement is preferred
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined; excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
