Pilot Plant Engineer (1422)
OVERVIEW:
Applies engineering expertise in one of the engineering disciplines to solve technical problems relating to any of the Saudi Aramco enterprise activities.
Works on engineering problems, designs, projects, and occasionally may review or coordinate engineering work performed by others.
SCOPE:
Responsible, under the general work direction of a supervisor, for performing engineering work as required to support Saudi Aramco's worldwide activity. Normal activities may include participating in or leading work groups established to perform special studies or projects, may give advice and work direction to less experienced co-workers, and participating in technical committees of industry organizations. Decisions and recommendations made can have significant economic impact on Saudi Aramco operations including the safety of personnel.
The level of expertise is such that the incumbent is considered to work at a fully professional level in one of the engineering disciplines. The incumbent is given some latitude to exercise engineering judgement in developing solutions to technical problems. This position differs from that of Engineer IV in that additional years of experience with the resultant achievement of a higher level of expertise permits the incumbent to function with less direct supervision and to undertake assignments that are more complex.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Plans, schedules and provides work direction when required for preparation of studies, designs, processes, reports, correspondence and related data and assures the efficiency, adequacy and conformance to overall objectives of all phases of complex engineering problems.
- Formulates the basis for the resolution of problems in a basic or special engineering discipline by analyzing and evaluating all pertinent data with respect to scope, effect on existing installations, economic impact and other applicable considerations.
- Initiates detailed work outline and makes decisions as to basic approaches, processes, or equipment. Performs work for final development of specialized or technical proposals and proposed projects.
- Brings all elements of a project together, makes certain that all elements proceed satisfactorily on schedule and initiates corrective action as required.
- Discusses, coordinates and resolves problems with personnel throughout ASC, Saudi Aramco and affiliates, and with outside company organizations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
BUSINESS CONTACTS:
- Daily with engineering contractors project personnel when assigned to an ASC project management team. Frequently with vendors' representatives and consultants to discuss problems and evaluate service capabilities.
- Daily with Supervisor, PMT personnel, performance and unit levels of other ASC organizations and counterparts in Saudi Aramco to discuss related problems and to accomplish job assignments. Frequently with Division levels to discuss job planning and progress.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline from a recognized college or university.
- Five (5) years applicable professional experience.
- Candidates must possess expertise and training in both the lab-scale and pilot-scale process, including process design and walkthrough, equipment operation, and recommendation for process and equipment upgrading.
- Proficiency in using equipment for materials screening at the lab-scale and conducting advanced testing in pilot plant environments is essential.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment are required.
- Additional experience in fuel cell, membrane, gas separation, catalytical reactions, CO2 capture, and utilization etc. will be considered as a plus.
- Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of engineering practices including scientific and economic principles, calculation methods, design details, and codes, standards and specifications.
- Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:
- Operates standard office equipment, including but not limited to: personal computers, calculators, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, etc.
- Reads and comprehends published, handwritten, and typewritten materials, company forms, and computer printouts.
- Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, and database functions in the Windows environment.
- Travels to meetings, seminars, and to vendor offices in Houston, throughout North America, and in Saudi Arabia.
- Inspects equipment during all phases of manufacturing and shipment. Climbs ladders, scaffolds, and uses temporary walkways to gain access.
- Tours and inspects all facilities and job sites during phases of operation, maintenance, or construction. Climbs ladders, scaffolds, and uses temporary walkways to gain access.
- During unusual or emergency operating, maintenance and construction activities can be exposed to dangerous chemicals, acids and corrosives, and hydrocarbons
- The job requires the typical physical demands of an office environment and is normally performed at a location that is an air-conditioned, well-lighted office building that meets building, safety occupant health, and facility access codes. The normal assignment may be at ASC's headquarters office in Houston, an engineering contractor's office or other designated location.
